Disposed of like bulky waste: When an animal rescuer sees who has been abandoned in this cage, her heart breaks

Lancefield (Australia) - What a sad fate. In Lancefield, Australia, two animals were recently simply dumped on the side of the road.

He could hardly believe his eyes! As a passer-by strolled through the streets of his neighborhood recently, he suddenly spotted a cage parked on a patch of grass.

A large note was stuck to it with the words "Free of charge". Unfortunately, this note did not refer to the cage itself - at least not only - but rather to the contents: two brown hens.

The finder's heart broke at the sight. Fortunately, he immediately knew where he could find help for the two two-legged friends: at the farm animal rescue center "Edgar's Mission" - after all, he had already donated to the animal rescuers several times.

As the founder of the organization, Pam Ahern, has since told the animal portal The Dodo , the reason for the abandonment has now been clarified. According to the report, the hens' former owners were of the opinion that the chickens' food was attracting too many vermin.

Instead of looking for a solution, they simply decided to dispose of the feathered friends like bulky waste.

Luckily , the two ladies, who have since been baptized Alex Layhey and Greta Ley, are already living in a new home, according to Ahern. The animal rescuers were quickly able to find a new roof over the hens' heads.

"It's easy to understand why these really sweet, curious and loving chickens quickly found a place in the heart of one of our team members and in his henhouse," Edgar's Mission wrote in a post on Facebook.

"A place where they will never again have to fear simply being abandoned one day."
