Last weekend, the organizations "Greater Good Charities" and "Lucky Dog Animal Rescue" brought around 145 animal shelter residents from Florida and Tennessee to the Midwest of the USA .

However, one of the furry passengers found a new home during the relief flight.

As Southwest Airlines reported in a press release, kitten "Avery" immediately captivated pilot Matt Prebish, who decided to adopt the furry friend.

"I don't think Captain Matt expected to adopt a hurricane evacuee from Tennessee when he agreed to fly this amazingly special flight, but some things are just meant to be," Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities, gushed toPeople.

Still in the pilot's cockpit, Avery is said to have felt at home, happy to have found a new family.

The shelter residents were first taken to a rescue camp in South Carolina on a Southwest Airlines plane on the aid organizations' rescue mission.

They were later split up into eight different animal shelters, where they were supposed to be safe from the effects of hurricanes "Helene" and "Milton" and are now hoping to experience similar luck as Avery.

In addition to the rescue mission of the numerous four-legged friends, the organizations worked together to deliver humanitarian supplies to communities in North Carolina that are still recovering from Hurricane Helene.
